Ike Davis.
Tuesday night didn’t end well for all the Mets.
After the team earned their best win of the season, rallying to beat the Yankees in the ninth inning, manager Terry Collins, GM Sandy Alderson and assistant GM John Ricco summoned Ike Davis and Ruben Tejada to a meeting. The Mets brass told the struggling infielders that the organization is close to sending them down the minors, a source confirmed to The Post.
“We are at that point,” a team official said.
After a tremendous second half in 2012, Davis has been awful this season with his average down to .152 to go along with four home runs and 11 RBIs. The subject of Davis’ potential demotion has been a popular topic thanks to the high expectations surrounding the first baseman.
Tejada has not had the same hype, but his struggles have been just as troubling. The shortstop went from .289 last season down to .209 thus far in 2013. Omar Quintanilla is tearing it up at Triple-A Las Vegas (.329) and would replace Tejada in the Mets lineup.
Lucas Duda could move from the outfield to replace Davis at first, but there is no definitive plan in place if the demotion happens.
